God Gave Cain Out Now

God Gave Cain has officially been released on all streaming and music platforms (except Spotify)! Remember: this is a dual language single in both English and French, so please check out both versions.  Also, tune in today at noon to Memorial University's college radio station, CHMR (93.5FM, or https://www.chmr.ca/, where we will be chatting with Colleen Power to discuss the release.  We hope you all like it!

Our new single “God Gave Cain” is being released on October 10th!

CHMR and Jiggs & Reels have already confirmed that they will be playing the single on the release day, but the single will also be available to listen to and purchase through our usual outlets: Bandcamp, Youtube Music, and Amazon Music.  The song will be available in with both English AND French (meaning both the vocals and the lyrics will be of one language or the other).  So, please be mindful of that if you decide to purchase the track (of course, there's nothing stopping you from picking up BOTH versions!)

We have put a lot of work into this one, so go give it a listen when it comes out!

Summer 2025 Update

St. John's

We played back-to-back shows in the early part of July: one for Easter Seals as part of their Summer Concert Series, and the other at Majestic at Theatre Hill [our performance of “The Capes” from that night is up on our Youtube Channel (links at the top of our page].

The very next day, we performed at what will probably be the last NL Folk Festival (at least, the last of its kind).  This was Laura's third Folk Fest and Scott's second.  It will be interesting to see if another group comes along to continue hosting an annual festival for folk music, but all of that depends on what they want to accomplish with it and how big they want to go.  Chantelle Jubenville joined us on violin (the photographer failed to capture Scott on the snare, so it's just Laura and Chantelle in the pic).

Port au Port

A picture taken early on the first day of the festival. The stage is in the background flanked by the Gulf of St. Lawrence.

In early August, we played two shows at Le Festival Bilingue out in Port au Port, which is located on the western coast of Newfoundland.  The town is one of the greatest concentrations of Francophone and Acadian language and culture in the whole province. There were some great acts there, and Saturday's family day crowd was huge.  We also got to do some filming with Michael Fenwick for a music video of “Through the Black Spruce Trees”.

Corner Brook

In the middle of August, we got to do a recording weekend at Laughing Heart Music.  We worked with Louis McDonald on two tracks: one for “The Capes” and another for “Through the Black Spruce Trees”.  We completed tracks for vocals, drums, and both acoustic and electric guitars.  We'll be incorporating more instruments into the two tracks as the year goes on (including Des on bass).  We're hoping to have mastered tracks by early next year.

Louis was hard at work each day at the console.  He was great to work and hang out with, and the whole experience was definitely a highlight of the summer.

Between recordings,  we also performed two nights (3 hours each) at the Hew & Draw Taproom in Corner Brook.  We got to play and sing our originals, but also some of our favorite covers by Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, Low, Damien Jurado, Marianne Faithfull, Cowboy Junkies, and The Handsome Family.

Back to St. John's

After returning home from the recording weekend, we went in for the Dare-U recording sessions hosted by Lawnya Vawnya in St. John's.  We spent two hours with Sarah Harris and Jacob Cherwick recording live off the floor tracks for “Moose Waltz” and “Marine Atlantic”.  We'll figure out mastering for these tracks once we receive the final mixes.

Bay Roberts

The last thing we did in August was perform at Showcase on Da Rock in Bay Roberts (Scott's hometown!).  Dean Clarke flew out here from Ontario to host the event.  He featured “Black-capped Chickadee” on his radio show, Jigs & Reels, when the band first formed, and we got a lot of exposure from that.  It was great to connect with Dean, the local talent, the vendors, and to play for an audience on a cold summer evening.

That wraps up our summer report.  Sorry for the late post: work has started up again as well as all the Autumn chores that need doing.  We'll be posting another update soon!

Cove Pond is Now on Youtube

Cove Pond now has a Youtube channel!  We will be posting music videos, recording of live performances, and previews of upcoming songs.  Right now, we've got a recording of our performance of “The Capes” at the Majestic in St. John's, a link to Distrokid's posting of “Black-capped Chickadee”, as well as a preview of our upcoming dual language single, “God Gave Cain”.
